Celebrating the best in music education practice in the UK
(formerly the National Music Council Music Education Awards)
and including the Will Michael Jazz Award
You are invited to apply for a Music Education Award on behalf of your hub.
For 2018 you have options:
- Apply for the Major Award – have your whole offer judged and be held up as a beacon of excellence;
- Apply for the Will Michael Jazz Award – have your jazz offer recognised for its excellence,
- Apply for a specific Commendation – by completing as few questions as you wish – even just one! – have a specific area of your work recognised – Commendations will be given to applicants who demonstrate excellent work in any one aspect of work or special project;
The Major Award celebrates those services that demonstrate imaginative, inclusive and all-round high-quality music provision. The Commendations and the Will Michael Jazz Award celebrate hubs that may be developing their all-round provision but are excelling at a particular aspect of work.
For 2018, we’re pleased to be including the Will Michael Jazz Award, supported also by NYJO and the Worshipful Company of Musicians. This award recognises excellent provision within jazz & improvised music and innovative approaches to engaging young musicians. If you apply for the Major Award, you will be automatically considered for the Will Michael Award. To apply only for the Will Michael Jazz Award, complete section 1, 2.5 & 3. Jazz entries will be considered by the specialist Will Michael Jazz panel.
Drawing attention to such best practice allows colleagues to learn from each other and share their exemplary practice more widely, so improving standards. These awards also offer the opportunity to promote widely the value and importance of everybody’s work, helping to secure the future of high quality music education for all.
To ensure a high profile for your work, we are again working in collaboration with Rhinegold Media & Events. The first celebration of the Awards will be during the Music Mark conference in November 2018. The overall winners will be announced at a gala dinner in February 2019 (to which a representative from each shortlisted submission will be invited) as part of Music Education Expo 2019. We hope to be able to provide a variety of platforms for presenting exemplary work from submissions, including at Music Education Expo itself.
All hubs and music services may apply, and all are treated fairly: the judging panel taking into account the size of each hub and its funding in making its decisions. We think you will find a submission easy to make: our form asks very few statistical questions, seeks relatively short answers, and does not require you to attach additional information.
We look forward to receiving your submission (sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org) by Monday 15th October 2018. If you have any queries meanwhile, email Angela Ruggles on the above e-mail address (allow at least a week for replies).
